Year 3 students are buying and selling at the market that they made. They are looking at merchandise on a long table. They are wearing their school uniforms.

Year 3 practice maths and negotiation at their market

This term, Year 3 students have been diving into the world of money! We have had a fantastic time learning how many different ways there are to make up a dollar, how to calculate change and what it means to be smart with spending. To put our learning into action, we created our very own Year 3 Shop.

Each student brought in three items from home and set their own prices to sell to our Year 3 community. It was wonderful to see our budding entrepreneurs in action — especially as we got closer to the shop’s closing time, when many students held sales and offered discounted prices! Not only did we practice real-life Mathematics skills, but we also learned about decision-making, marketing and negotiation.
