Preserving olives at Gan Zayit
After patiently waiting for seven weeks while their olives cured in salt, students have spent the last few weeks rinsing their creations to get them ready to eat. Last week they added garlic, rosemary from our Kindergarten, vinegar and olive oil.
This week, Gan Zayit students talked about the meaning of the word ‘Zayit’ (olives!), carefully sterilised jars and then transferred the preserved olives to the jars. The best part was tasting the olives!
This has been a wonderful way for students to experience how olives journey from our trees to our plates. We can’t wait to send the olives home!
