A student and her great grandmother together lay an ANZAC Day wreath on a table with a memorial candle. They stand in front of the Australian flag.

ANZAC Remembrance

We held a special assembly this week for our Middle and Senior School students to honour the sacrifices and contributions made by those serving in the armed forces.

A particular focus of the assembly was the stories of the bravery of women involved in war, including Oodgeroo Noonuccal, Nancy Wake, and Lyudmila Pavlichenko.

We heard from former Navy member, Natalie Sankey, from the Women Veterans Network Australia (WVNA) who shared the important work that she does with veterans who have experienced trauma. We were also incredibly honoured to have Doreen Beckwith, great grandmother of KDS students Olivia, Kara and Sara, lay a wreath for our ANZACs. Doreen worked with the Air Raid Precaution division in the UK during WWII.

We ended the ceremony with El Maaleh Rachamim and the honour roll of King David families and relatives who served in WWI and WWII. Lest we forget.
