All aboard the Enterprize
On their recent excursion, Year 4 students embarked on an exciting journey aboard the Enterprize tall ship, a 27-metre topsail schooner. The ship is a replica of the vessel originally built in Hobart in 1830 and first sailed to the Yarra River in Melbourne in 1835. During their visit, the children experienced life as a sailor, actively helping to hoist the sails and ringing the ship’s bell.
The students also had the chance to explore the ship’s quarters, peering into the compact bunks and inspecting the galley, gaining a firsthand understanding of what life was like on a tall ship in the 1830s. The excursion was a great opportunity for our students to learn more about Australia’s maritime history and the experiences of these explorers and the impact it had on our First Nations Peoples.
