Commemorating Oct 7 together

On the date set by the Knesset to commorate Oct 7 2023, Years 5-12 came together for a Memorial Ceremony for the victims of October 7 and the Swords of Iron War. We lit a memorial candle, said prayers for Israel, for peace, and for the safe passage and healing of the hostages. Students spoke about how October 7 brought us even closer to Jews around the world, and especially with Israel.

Year 6 students Juliette and Eitan shared their poem about October 7 and Year 11 student Eden spoke about the important work of SparkIL in helping keep affected businesses afloat. Nana band played a moving rendition of Shir Lamaalot (Song of Ascents). The commemoration ended with footage of hostages being reunited with their families on Simchat Torah, after two years in captivity.

Later in the day, Years 3-5 undertook activities about mutual responsibility and support (‘kol Yisrael arevim zeh bazeh‘), including supporting affected Israeli businesses through SparkIL.

Thank you to all of the students who contributed to this meaningful ceremony.
