Middle School (Years 6 - 9)

Middle School years are a time of rapid development, as students gain independence and start to understand themselves in relation to the world. Our Middle School programs emphasise collaboration, creativity and critical thinking. Our students are nurtured and challenged in and out of the classroom, taking advantage of our co-curricular programs and our many opportunities to excel. They embrace our values of inclusivity, tikkun olam, a meaningful relationship with Israel and a love of learning.

The Middle Years are when students are experiencing the greatest physical, emotional, intellectual and social changes of their lives. During these years students progressively seek greater independence and develop their individual identities and value systems. Intellectually they have a growing capacity for reflective global thinking and begin to make decisions beyond the home and family. They start to build or break relationships according to the life skills they are taught during Kesher (Homeroom), formally and informally.

We develop a deep student understanding via engagement, reflection, collaboration, mentoring and sharing ideas. At King David we strive to meet the developmental, social and educational needs of our students by providing a varied, challenging curriculum and a supportive school community.

Year 9 Program - Nitzan

Year 9 is a time of transformation. As students begin asking “Who am I?” and “Where do I fit?”, our Nitzan program supports this journey of self-discovery with engaging, real-world learning that fosters independence, connection and confidence.

We have developed a full day program specifically designed to support and challenge our Year 9 cohort on their journey of self-discovery. Called “Nitzan”, the program gives our adolescents ownership over their learning, empowering them to build skills for their future through a variety of vibrant, dynamic and practical learning opportunities.

Every Wednesday begins with Kick Start, where students participate in physical and mindful activities including yoga, meditation, and running – to energise their minds and bodies.

Each term of Nitzan explores a distinct theme:

Term 1 – Life Hacks: Students develop essential life skills through practical workshops and accreditations (CPR, Barista Basics, Food Handling). They build resumes, explore finance, and take on hands-on challenges in mechanics, carpentry and household maintenance.

Term 2 – Ethics, Rights and Responsibility:  Through rich discussion and creative expression, students explore justice, governance, and the many ways people drive change. They’re encouraged to identify causes they care about and consider how they might make a difference.

Term 3 – Tikkun Olam: Focusing on giving back, students learn from local organisations and commit to weekly volunteer placements, experiencing firsthand how small actions can help repair the world.

Term 4 – Multicultural Melbourne: Students immerse themselves in the cultures that make our city vibrant – through excursions, encounters, and shared stories – culminating in a multicultural feast to celebrate diversity and connection.

Nitzan empowers students to grow with purpose, curiosity and a strong sense of self – becoming more connected with the world beyond the classroom.

Students are outside in Nitzan t-shirts. They are putting concrete mix into a blue wheelbarrow. They are building a project together for Year 9 Nitzan.
