Years 6, 8 and 9 students were privileged to visit our partner congregation Temple Beth Israel (TBI) this week, where they participated in a unique Jewish educational experience. At TBI they heard from the soferet Hanna Klebansky, a ritual scribe from Israel, who is currently scribing a new Torah scroll for TBI.

Students learned about the process of scribing, including the instruments used, and participated in the mitzvah of writing their own scroll through ceremoniously joining Hanna as she scribed part of the scroll.

Hanna made a keepsake for each kesher class, scribing the class name on a piece of parchment to be hung up in each homeroom.  Thank you to Rabbi Allison Conyer and Cantor Michel Laloum for facilitating this important experience.
