Attend an Interview and Day Visit

An application and a pre-entry interview are a prerequisite for admission but not a guarantee of admission.

Students will also have a day visit, where they will join a regular school day with their peer level. For Year 7 entry, attendance at either Connect Day and/or Experience Day is required in place of a day visit.

What is ELC orientation?

The ELC orientation is designed to help newly enrolled families acclimate to our Early Learning Centre. It includes a tour of the facilities and an introduction to our educators. This session ensures a smooth transition for both children and parents.

What is Prep orientation?

Our extensive Transition to Prep program commences in Term 3 in the year prior to your child starting in Prep. Your child will participate in a variety of activities including Art, Sport, Buddy Program and Shabbat. By the time each child reaches the first day of school, they are very familiar with the staff and the environment and ready to learn.

What is Year 7 Connect Day? (Year 5)

Each year, King David welcomes many new students into Year 7. We start this process when students are in Year 5 with our Connect Day, usually held in the second half of the year. Current and prospective students (all in casual clothes) have the opportunity to experience life and learning at the Magid Campus.

What is Year 7 Experience Day? (Year 6)

Following on from Connect Day in Year 5, students in Year 6 have a further opportunity the year prior to joining King David to become familiar with the learning environment and specialist subjects offered at the School. Experience Day is held during Term 1.

What is Year 7 Orientation Day?

Orientation Day is held towards the end of Term 4 for Year 6 students who have confirmed places in Year 7 for the following year. Families receive contact details of other students and are encouraged to connect over the summer break prior to the start of the new School year.

scholarships

Scholarships and Fee Assistance

The King David School has a range of academic and equity scholarships. These are generously funded by our donors. Scholarships offer a reduction of tuition fees, which varies depending on the type of scholarship. Most scholarships are for the duration of the student’s schooling, provided the student adheres to the scholarship conditions.

Academic Scholarships

Our scholarships celebrate exceptional achievements in academics, the arts, and leadership, supporting student talents and ambitions at KDS.

Derech Eretz Scholarships

Derech Eretz can be described as one who consistently demonstrates common decency, or high emotional and interpersonal intelligence.

The Gabi Awalom Basser STEM Scholarship

The Gabi Awalom Basser STEM Scholarship is named in memory of Gabi, a student of The King David School who passed away too soon from illness in 2021. Gabi started at the School in Junior Kinder, graduating in 2007. She was an outstanding student and Dux of her graduating class.

Music and Performing Arts Scholarships

We have a limited number of scholarships available to new students who show exceptional talent in music or performing arts.

Opportunity and Inclusion Scholarships

Thanks to generous donors to The King David School Foundation, this means-tested program can offer long-term reduction in tuition fees on a whole family basis. The Opportunity and Inclusion scholarships are awarded to families who, for financial reasons, require assistance for their child to attend King David and are reassessed annually. Scholarships are available to new and existing students.

The Roza and Ezra Polak Scholarship

Through the generosity of Leibovich Family Foundation, The King David School is delighted to offer new students entering the School in Year 9 (2026) the opportunity to apply for the Roza and Ezra Polak Scholarship. Early Learning

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions parents have about The King David School.

Contact Admissions

When should I apply?

We recommend applying as early as possible. The Early Learning Centre (ELC) and Year 7 are particularly competitive. Early applications help secure your child's place. For Year 7, enrolments are typically confirmed in Year 5.

Can non-Jewish students enrol?

Yes, of course. Students of all backgrounds are welcome at the school. All students - regardless of background - are required to learn Jewish Studies and Hebrew, and participate in the Jewish Experiential Education program.

Do you accept enrolments outside of Prep and Year 7?

While Prep and Year7 are our biggest intakes, depending on availablity, we accept enrolments in other Year levels on a case-by-case basis.

Is transport available?

Located in Armadale, the School is easily accessible by public transport (Toorak and Armadale Stations, 5, 6 and 64 trams). We do not currently have a bus service, although this may change if a need for this service develops.

Is the canteen kosher?

Our school follows the rules of Kashrut in Progressive Judaism. This means we use kosher meat only, our products do not include gelatine, shellfish, animal-based rennet or similar additives, and we do not mix meat and milk. Our packaged and cooked products are not certified by Kosher Australia (besides using kosher-certified meat). Canteen food is made fresh daily and a range of other dietary requirements are catered for.

Where do I buy the school uniform?

School uniforms can be purchased online or in store at Bob Stewart t Uniform Specialists (158 Waverley Road, Malvern East). Please visit https://www.bobstewart.com.au/school/king-david-school to see the uniform list.

Second hand KDS uniforms can be purchased from the Posh Opp Shoppe, corner of Grange and Glenhuntly Roads, Glenhuntly. All proceeds from the sale of second hand uniform items support the vital work the Posh Opp Shoppe does in providing funding for children with special needs in Jewish schools.

When is the Sports Uniform worn as opposed to the Academic Uniform?

The Sports Uniform is worn on days that the students have PE or Sport. Sports Uniform items may not be worn with Academic Uniform items.

Students are expected to wear Academic Uniform to formal events such as Presentation Evening and when they are representing the school.

The School Blazer is compulsory for students in Years 10 - 12.

Understanding the unpredictability of the Melbourne weather, our uniforms are not seasonal. Long pants, for example, can be worn year round if necessary.
