Our Junior Kinder scientists
Science Week has been full of wonder, and the children’s science inquiry skills are developing. Each day in Junior Kinder this week we’ve explored new experiments that have sparked curiosity, joy, and a love for discovery. The children are becoming confident in making predictions before an experiment, then using their reflective thinking skills to decide whether their hypothesis was correct and to reason why.
Yesterday, we introduced an exciting experiment called Fizzing Colours. We demonstrated how it worked using special science apparatus called test tubes! We asked the children to guess what the clear liquid inside the test tubes was. Many thought it was water, but, just like real scientists, they used their senses to investigate and found that it smelled very different to water.
The children watched in amazement as the coloured vinegar fizzed and bubbled on the bicarb, making tiny holes and swirling colours together in beautiful patterns.
After the demonstration, the children were invited to experiment independently, mixing colours, testing ideas, and forming their own theories just like true scientists.
