Today, 56 excited students gathered at the rear of Magid Campus to start a day of learning and activities as part of the Year 7 (2015) Experience Day.
Following addresses by Mrs Bernshaw and in-coming Principal Marc Light, the students were informed of some of the exciting activities that our School Captains have been involved in. Bibi Maher delivered an interesting story of travelling through Israel on the Yesh Trip – a highlight of her Year 10 experience. Sophie Fink spoke of the wonderful camaraderie between the students and Ross Lomazov delighted the audience with tales of his growth from a tentative new Year 7 student, to becoming a School Captain.
The students then participated in a series of “Minute to Win It’ challenges set by the Sports Department. A highlight was seeing students who had been frustrated initially, achieve success by completing the ping pong ball challenge.
All students were given a ‘taste’ of Year 7 participating in learning activities in French, Chinese, Science and Jewish Studies classes.
The students were tested on their knowledge of all things French by Ms Blacklock. By the end of the class the students were singing in French and could use several French words.
Sunny Shi guided students through Chinese culture and the Mandarin language. Students learnt a variety of words and could name the animals in the Zodiac.
Andrew Prakash and Miss Naismith used the students’ creativity to develop a series of small tests for each other in Science. The students had the opportunity to discover some of the capabilities of robots in schools.
Adam Tanenbaum from the Centre for Living Judaism used a large map of Israel and some place cards to familiarise themselves with the geography of Israel.
It has been an exciting experience for our current Year 6 students to bond and share time with new students who will be entering our King David School community in 2015.
A special thank you to all individuals who helped make this day a wonderful occasion.
