Are you eligible to apply?

To apply you must be able to demonstrate talent in one of the following areas.

  • Music
  • Performing Arts –  Drama
  • Performing Arts –  Musical Theatre Music
  • Visual Arts

Criteria

Music

Selection will be based on musical talent and will take into account:

  • the results of a 20-minute audition conducted by the Head of Music and specialist instrumental staff (see below)
  • a music aptitude test
  • previous music and school reports
  • an interview with the relevant Head of School
Visual Arts
Selection will be based on creative talent and will take into account:
  • visual arts portfolio
  • previous school reports
  • an interview with the relevant Head of School
  • students should exhibit an extraordinary talent in the Visual Arts and commit to studying visual arts at the School.
  • students are expected to study at least two Visual Arts subject in Year 10, and at least two VCE Visual Arts subject in Years 11 and 12
Performing Arts

Audition Guidelines

  • students with performing arts (drama) talent will be required to attend an interview/audition in which they present one of the monologues from the list prescribed by the School and/or, by prior arrangement, submit an audio or video recording of a recent performance.  Candidates should learn and prepare their monologue for performance to the interview panel focusing on characterisation. It is not necessary for applicants to apply stagecraft such as costume, sound and make-up in their audition piece.
  • students with performing arts (musical theatre) talent will be required to attend an interview/audition in which they sing a song of their choice and present one of the monologues from the list prescribed by the School and/or, by prior arrangement, submit an audio or video recording of a recent performance.  Candidates should learn and prepare their monologue for performance to the interview panel focusing on characterisation.   It is not necessary for applicants to apply stagecraft such as costume, sound and make-up to their audition piece.  Candidates must submit their sheet music one week prior to their audition if they require musical accompaniment or bring in a backing track, if required.

 How to apply

All applicants must fulfill the following requirements:

  • submit copies of the 2 most recent school reports (part of the School’s online application).
  • most recent Naplan results (part of the School’s online application).
  • complete The King David School online application HERE
  • complete the relevant application form:
  • MUSIC
  • PERFORMING ARTS
  • VISUAL ARTS
  • once completed, an email will be sent to register with Edutest
  • an interview with Principal, Marc Light.
  • audition with relevant department where applicable

Value

All scholarships are at the discretion of the Principal scholarships cover a percentage of the academic  tuition fees.

Scholarships do not cover:

  • the cost of books, stationery or uniforms
  • associated charges
  • security levy
  • discretionary charges such as overseas trips/ interstate music camp

Duration

Tenures vary but generally recipients are expected to complete their secondary education at The King David School.

Special Conditions

Music, Visual and Performing Arts scholarship recipients are expected to maintain a sound standard of academic achievement.

The Audition process

Once application is submitted a detailed description of the Audition process will be sent.

A scholarship may be withdrawn if the Principal is not satisfied with the diligence or conduct of the holder. Failure to pay fees may also lead to withdrawal. The School reserves the right not to award any or all of the scholarships available.

All applicants must submit an online Scholarship application made directly to The King School as well as an application directly to Edutest.  Applications close on Friday 8 February 2019 and the Scholarship exam is Sunday 24 February 2019.

Once the Admissions Department has received your application, you will be invited to attend an interview with Principal, Marc Light.
