Music Exchange Program

Our flight to Sydney on Sunday afternoon signalled the start of our third year of the annual Music Exchange with the Emanuel School (Sydney).

This is the second time we’ve been guests at Emanuel School in Sydney as we continue to develop and consolidate our shared program and vision.

The Music Exchange is a wonderful opportunity for music students to learn together, perform together and it also broadens social horizons.

Purim – Junior School

Southwick students had a very memorable day celebrating the festival of Purim. Various activities revolved around the fulfilment of Purim mitzvot and included parading beautiful Purim costumes and baking hamentaschen.

The Year 9’s heard a presentation by IMPACT for Women, and then worked to make gift baskets for victims of domestic violence. John Reed (Class of 2012) has been shortlisted for “Top Class” as part of the VCE Season of Excellence.

This highly prestigious program recognises outstanding VCE performing arts talent in the State and John’s monologue exam which he completed as part of his Theatre Studies course has been nominated.

Team Melbourne

Team Melbourne, the only active First Robotics Competition team in Melbourne, was part of a series of demonstration matches held recently at the Sydney Music Festival, The Big Day Out. The event attracted upwards of 65,000 people, providing ample opportunity for the four students and teacher from The King David School to showcase the work put in during an 11 week build season in 2012. Five other teams from Sydney and Tasmania were also present in the day long event.

Back to School Service

All students from Years 6 to 12 attended the Back to School Service at Temple Beth Israel on Thursday, 14 February to mark the beginning of the School’s 36th academic year.

Many parents of student leaders and Year 12 students were also present to witness student leaders and Year 12 students being inducted.

It was an opportunity to spiritually prepare for the year ahead and give thanks for the many opportunities that being a student at The King David School provides.

School Uniforms in Zambia

Mathew Jacobson, my Dad, has been collecting King David School uniforms and giving them to poor schools in Zambia as part of his work with the Dūcere Foundation.

My dad, my mum, my sister Cara and I went to Zambia and helped give all the uniforms out to schools there. The kids in Zambia were very happy with what we brought them.
