Searching for gold

To begin our exploration of the Gold Rush, Year 5 journeyed to the goldfields of Sovereign Hill. We took on the role of fortune hunters that came to Australia to search for gold – the Irish, the Chinese, sailors and the British. While in character, we were subjected to stringent laws that ended with a jail sentence if broken – our troopers were very harsh! We tried our luck panning for gold and witnessed the creation of a $180 000 gold bullion. While thinking like miners, we created models of equipment used on the goldfields and explored an active underground mine. The only thing sweeter than the day were the raspberry drops eaten on the way home!
