Recipients of the Private Greg Sher shield

On Sunday 28 April, the Victorian Association of ex-Jewish Servicemen and Women (VAJEX) held its 90th anniversary ceremony at the Glen Eira Town Hall. VAJEX was formed after the Great War to care for families who had lost loved one in service to their country. Year 12 students Avishai Conyer and Jasmine Bader were this year’s worthy recipients of the Private Greg Sher shield, honoring the first Jewish soldier to have tragically lost his life since the Second World War. The award is given to students who have made a meaningful contribution to the community. The ceremony was conducted in a very dignified manner and included speeches, prayers and student awards.
