What do Katniss Everdeen, Miss Trunchball, Percy Jackson, Mog the Forgetful Cat and Harry Potter have in common?
They were all on display at our Book Week Parade on Wednesday morning, one of the highlights of Book Week. David, AKA Miss Trunchball, read “Oh The Places You’ll Go” by Dr. Seuss. It is an allegory about dreaming big and achieving great things. This was fitting because the theme of this year’s book week was Escape to Everywhere. The book showed what you can achieve when you escape from your doubts and believe in yourself. So many of the characters on display at the parade had done just that which gives hope to young readers everywhere.
We also got to meet Corrie Allegro from “The Allegro Moveable Book Collection”. Corrie visited the Library to present some of his amazing Pop-up book collection to Years 4 & 5 as one of the Book Week activities. He gave a fascinating talk on the history of Pop-up books and, after his presentation, we had time to participate and do some hands-on activities.
