The Year 5 students were excited to go to Gilwell Park for their four day camp. They experienced a variety of activities that built on previous experiences. The activities challenged them individually and required them to work as supportive team members. The activities included High Ropes Course, Low Ropes Course, Flying Fox, Climbing Wall, Canoeing, Raft Building, Bushwalking and the muddy Gauntlet.
During the course of the camp the students spent seperate nights camping out, learning to use and cook their meal on a Trangia, setting up the tents and building a campfire.
Some students comments were:
“the camp wasn’t ordinary, some of the activities were unexpected and fun”; “the Gauntlet was challenging and fun”; “the Low and High Ropes Courses were scary but fun also”; “sleeping in a tent was a new and exciting experience”.
Some were anxious about camp but were “glad they went.”
A big thank you to Russell Newman for organising the camp and for the staff who were an integral part of the camp’s success.
