The school has a number of very bright or gifted students who are catered for via withdrawal programs and curriculum differentiation. The withdrawal programs focus on the development of thinking skills and they cover a wide range of topics. Students could be solving major world problems, designing new civilisations or developing their understanding of how human beings interact. Our Enrichment teachers work in well with classroom teachers to ensure that the curriculum in each classroom meets the needs of highly talented students. This is done through pre-testing units, designing open ended curriculum and negotiating work requirements with individual students. The school also involves students with various competitions like the Tournament of the Minds.
Special Education
The school has a number of Special Education teachers; they are highly trained in assisting students with a wide range of learning difficulties. They use many different assessment tools and remediation techniques to helps student manage the normal school curriculum. The school makes an effort to assist children who have learning gaps rather than a defined learning problem. This ensures that students do not develop learning problems later in their schooling. There is a heavy emphasis on early intervention as well as a program for more senior students to help them achieve their best in VCE. All students are tested annually to monitor progress and ascertain which students require extra assistance. Students who attend Special Education are re-tested every 6 months.
