Parents’ Assocation Welcome
TKDSPA has had a busy and successful 2012.
The year commenced with our annual King’s Carnival event which is our first and biggest fundraiser of the school calendar, netting well over $62,000 this year. With our outstanding committee as well as student and parent volunteers, we had a hugely successful day and we hope to top it this year on March 17th with new rides, stalls, giveaways and much more!
Following on from our Carnival was our Women’s Breakfast held at the beautiful Leonda on the Yarra in June. With our outstanding speaker Alice Pung, it was a delightful event attended by nearly 200 people being served a delicious array of hot and cold breakfast items.
The second half of 2012 saw the fruition of over 2 years of work by the members of our uniform committee with the introduction of the new King David School uniform. Modern and with clean lines, the new uniform reflects a sense of pride about being a King David student.
For the first time in many years, the KDSPA hosted a hugely successful Trivia Night for over 250 people in November. The Trivia Committee worked hard to provide a fun round table event with plenty of laughs, giveaways & prizes, a huge assortment of delicious cakes and other tasty delights. This was an amazing effort and we hope it becomes an enduring tradition.
Other regular projects include our Entertainment Book sales, Challot delivery, Art by Kids, babysitting list of Magid Institute students and we continued to run our popular Southwick Tuckshop under the leadership of the very creative and inspiring Liz Goldberg.
Liz has worked hard to deliver a nutritious and exciting menu for the Southwick students, which is always popular and well received. In the background, we have sold icy poles and hot chocolates, sizzled sausages as well as run a café at Junior Atletics Carnival and of course assisted a number of families who faced some challenges this year.
All of this was achieved under the brilliant leadership and tireless commitment of Karen Katz who stepped down recently after 3 years as President of the KDSPA. Her organizational and management skills as well as her unswerving loyalty to The King David School will long be remembered. On behalf of Karen, I’d like to thank all of you for your contribution, ideas, assistance, enthusiasm and support in 2012.
As the new President of the KDSPA, I feel very fortunate to be part of such a vibrant and passionate cohort of parents and students. I look forward to working with you to bring about a year of exciting social and fundraising events & new projects, all designed to make a difference to our children. And please remember, involved parents do make a difference!
