The King David School Debating Club
This group has been running at the school since 1995 and provides students with a range of skills from basic public speaking to the formal presentation of an argument. A debate is basically, an argument governed by a strict set of rules of conduct and sophisticated arguing techniques. It gives the student the confidence to see both sides of the argument. Students, who debate, show a marked improvement in writing a persuasive argument essays.
Debating teaches such skills as:
How to construct an argument
How to prepare a definition
How to effectively use body language
How to be effective in rebutting an argument
These skills are all very useful life skills which stand the student in good stead no matter what they move on to do. |
