Just when we thought our sporting winning streak had ended, our Year 8/9 Boys Basketball won their THIRD successive basketball championship in the EISM. The final game was a classic encounter playing against Bialik. Bialik did all they could which included bringing their entire Year 8/9 cohort to Orrong Romanis. The pressure got to our boys early as the scores were locked at 19-19 at the major break. The boys shifted gears in the second half and took home the trophy by 9 points.
At the same time and at the same venue our Year 8/9 Girls Netball competed against reigning champions Kilvington. The girls came out slow losing the first qtr 3-8. The final score was 20-24 in the grand final. A bravely fought match!
Yesterday, our Year 8/9 Touch Rugby team triumphed and made it the fourth championship for KDS in the Winter Season. In what was a fantastic season our boys capped off the season with a 3-1 victory over Nunawading. Neither team coped early on with the wet conditions and it was a close battle. Nunawading had a huge home ground advantage with over 100 staff and students cheering the home team on. 10 minutes into the first half Ethan Lewin crossed first giving KDS a 1-0 lead however just moments after Nunawading equalized and at the main break it was a 1-1 draw.
Motivational words from coach David Cyngler and Principal Marc Light pushed our boys as we took a 2-1 lead after great set up play by Jared Diamond guiding Oscar Freeman over the line for a KDS 2-1 lead. A third try for KDS came from a Nunawading error and another try for Freeman giving KDS back to back championships in touch rugby after winning it in 2016. Jared Diamond was named grand final MVP.
